The Black Nun
This shoot with Shayna LáToya Xaria was born out of a playful conversation—a spark of an idea that simply had to be realized. We were brainstorming, tossing around concepts, and the notion of a latex nun just… landed perfectly. It was amusing at first, definitely laced with laughter, but the more we talked about it, the more compelling it became. I’m always seeking that unique intersection of the provocative and the reverent, and I think we managed to capture it beautifully. There’s a certain irony in the juxtaposition of latex and religious iconography that I find endlessly fascinating, and it’s a visual narrative I feel strongly about exploring.
Of course, with ideas like these, practicality is key. We considered the more traditional setting—a church or cathedral—but quickly realized that wasn’t a risk I was willing to take. Let’s just say I value my freedom too much for a potential run-in with the authorities! So, we pivoted to the garage, a surprisingly perfect backdrop that added a touch of gritty realism to the concept. It’s all about adapting, isn’t it? A good photographer can find artistry anywhere; you just need to know where to look.
And this is just the beginning for this particular latex ensemble. We have several more ideas brewing, and I’ll be sharing those with you soon enough. For now, enjoy the video of Shayna embodying this shiny, playful latex nun, a testament to her versatility and willingness to embrace the unexpected. I’m always aiming for that perfect blend of elegance, boldness, and a hint of mischief, and she delivered in spades.
