Latex Lifestyle
At Home Wearing Latex
The series takes the concept of latex as everyday wear at face value, shooting Alexandra Potter in a real apartment rather than a studio: a lived-in dining area with bookshelves, a white sofa draped with a throw, dark parquet flooring, and natural light streaming through the window.
The black-and-white treatment pulls the domestic setting and the latex into the same tonal register, which closes the visual distance between the two in a way that color would not. The material reads as part of the scene rather than foreign to it, which is precisely the point; the series works because nothing in it signals that anything unusual is happening.
Alexandra noted that wearing latex at home is not something she does, which gives the series its edge: the fantasy of the ordinary is only interesting when it is actually a fantasy.
